I know nothing about music scoring but would be remiss if I didn't mention there are quite a few alternatives mentioned for Finale by Linux usesr. (And Steam has a built-in Wine called Steam Play that lets you play many/most and eventually all Windows games on Linux.) Another good front-end is Lutris but that is for games. MakeMusic Finale have fantastic tools and best features that can create and develope. ![]() But it does not have configuration for Finale 26 so doesn't help you. Dutch, English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Polish, Swedish. PlayOnLinux would be handy, it can let you run a lot of Windows software with them providing the configuration for Wine for you. There are front-ends for Wine, that actually provide a user friendly interface, but those don't help with Finale 26. The User Guide is probably a recommended read to start with: I don't think it's a very user friendly program, it may take some time to get it to do what you want. You can install Wine on Linux Mint with command apt install wine-installer run from the terminal. ![]() But there is only one reviewer and it's from 2 years ago. The Wine "AppDB", which has reviews from Wine users for how well specific Windows software works with it, shows a promising test result. Many of the old keyboard shortcuts have also been replaced by one click actions meaning you don't have to remember all those "Alt" key functions.įinale 2011 is the best version of Finale yet although beginners should be prepared for a very steep but worthwhile learning curve.It's Windows software but you may be able to run it on Linux with Wine, a compatibility layer that can make some Windows software (maybe with some workarounds or issues) run on Linux. However, Finale 2011 has made things much quicker and more intuitive meaning you can get more music written in half the time. There are literally hundreds of features in Finale's rather crowded interface which make it very intimidating at first. Certainly Finale is still probably one of the most powerful cross platform tools for turning ideas into music. ![]()
